A US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel urged regulators to take action against a drug made by Pfizer Inc. that could be linked to the spread of COVID-19.
The panel, sponsored by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, voted 13-2 to recommend that the FDA stop approval of its version of Valtrex for use in patients who have experienced a severe COVID-19 illness.
The panel also urged the FDA to issue a warning letter to the company and the FDA to issue a final decision.
The FDA said in its ruling on the drug, which has not been shown to be safe, that the FDA had not acted in bad faith in making such a decision.
